Overview

The io uses the same power amplifier and phono stage as its larger brother, the multi-award winning Brio. The io aims to deliver exceptional sound quality in a smaller and more cost effective package. The class A/B circuit shares its DNA with the rest of Rega’s amplifiers, and as usual, great care has been taken in component selection. Sanken output transistors and an Alps volume potentiometer and a linear power supply that enables an output of 30 watts per channel into 8 ohms.

Two line level inputs and a high quality moving magnet phono input are available as sources. There is a headphone output provided on the front of the unit for powering standard hi-fi headphones; this is driven from the power amplifier stage of the unit through relays to avoid signal degradation when headphones are inserted or the product is muted. A new remote handset is included as well.

Remarkable

Everything just works well. Downsized from an Anthem 225, and I like the sound of my ELAC UB5 and LS50 waaaay more with the Rega IO. 30 wpc channel is more than enough for any normal person who wants to keep their hearing for the rest of their life.

Excellent value amp

This amp will be a classic for years to come..

Pros : Wonderful sound for an amp of this size and power. It brings you into the music, maybe at a slight loss of clarity
Cons: The Volume is a little tricky to get right

A great little amp.

I’ve owned the Rega io for about 2 months now. I am using it to power a pair of bower and Wilkins 607’s. A speaker that has a reputation for being a bit hard to drive. The Rega io drives them with relative ease. My source is a Rega Planar 3. This a great first audiophile setup. I would suggest this amp to anyone looking for a great budget audiophile amp. Just beware that you’re limited with the number of line inputs the amp has (2).

Quite nice. The sound isn’t a terrific improvement over the Brio-R, but it does have a headphone jack. The Brio has a better headphone jack and it is more compatible with higher end headphones. Who cares about number of inputs? Quality vs Quantity! I’d give this a 3 of 5 for sound quality and a 3 of 5 overall. A bit pricey as Rega tends to be.

Fantastic, the one to get

So let me start the review by stating I used to run a YouTube channel called thebudgetaudiophile and through that window I've had the fortune to try many an integrated amp under $1000. Everything from Cambridge audio to marantz and nad, and even Regas higher end offerings the brio and elex-r. Not to take away from the sonic wonder of the io's stable mates but for this audiophile the io is the best value under a grand period. Firstly once you remove yourself from its limitations, like three inputs and no inbuilt dac and focus on what was gained by their exclusion you realize that by their removal so much beauty was put in. The best part of the whole amp is a musical truth that it brings to whatever you listen to and also being able to capture the meaning and soul of a performance. Also it's probably got the best inbuilt phono stage of any integrated I've heard under a grand, a perfect match for its partner the planar 1. I've been like so many others enamored and beguiled by the phono stage of the schiit mani and this is on par at least or betters it by showing the soul in the music. I didn't mean to be long winded but if you wanna hear the truth, life and soul of whatever you listen to and the lack of inputs doesn't scare you off then this is it my friends, let us all be enchanted.
