  • Epson UltraBlack™ Technology — Epson created a Proprietary Compensation Filter that controls the polarization of light itself. This allows Epson to suppress any stray light within the signal, producing an outstanding Dynamic Contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
  • Precision HDR Adjustment — Realtime HDR curve adjustment allowing for 16-steps of control to fine-tune the HDR performance – regardless of the content being displayed.
  • Extreme Color Gamut — One of the first commercially available home theater projectors capable of displaying the full three-dimensional DCI-P34 color space. This extreme color performance is 50% wider than typical 1-Chip Rec. 709 projectors and allows for a truly professional-level of color accuracy.
  • Epson Precision Lens Technology — Designed for zero-light-leakage, all Epson Precision Lenses utilize a proprietary 15-element precision glass structure for outstanding image clarity and edge-to-edge focus uniformity.

New Epson 5050UB

I bought a Epson 5050UB projector from Audio Advice. I paired it with an Elite Screen. The screen is a 158 inch 2.35:1 screen. This was an upgrade from my old system which was an Elite 16:9 120" curved screen paired with an Epson 2150 1080P projector. So far I have watched the Hobbit trilogy on 4k. These movies got excellent video reviews so being new to 4K UHD I wanted to see what 4K from an excellent source would look like. The first 3 things that I noticed about this projector are the excellent black levels, contrast, and vibrant colors. The resolution did not seem to be as big of an upgrade as I was imagining it would be. This is not a knock against the projector or the 4K format. I am just saying I think Blu ray is an amazing format and the image resolution for the most part has always great. I will answer a question that I was concerned about and researched endlessly which asked the question "will this projector be able to fill a screen this size without making compromises to the image?" The answer is a resounding yes! My room is a dedicated space. The walls and ceiling are all overlayed with black velvet fabric. The flooring is black carpet. When the lights go out I want to be sitting in a black void with nothing to distract me from the image on the screen. Room dimensions are 26 feet deep, 15 feet wide, with 8 foot ceilings. I have the projector ceiling mounted at 22 feet from the screen. I am running movies in digital cinema mode and at this distance it effortlessly lights up the screen with excellent contrast, color and image resolution. Even when running HDR with the slide bar at 7-8 in digital cinema mode the image is bright, with excellent contrast, black levels, and color saturation. This screen size was a massive upgrade for me. It would not have been possible without the lens shift and zoom features on this projector. I caught this on sale from Audio Advice for $2,299.00 which is a steal for everything this projector offers. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
