Is It Easy To Return An Item?
Yes, simply give us a call at 888.899.8776 or you can email our support team at support@audioadvice.com. Many times our team of experts can help figure out why the product might not be working like you expected and get things fixed over the phone, so don’t be surprised if we ask a few questions, we love troubleshooting!
If our tech help can not make you happy, we will email over a return shipping label with a Return Number.
Hopefully, you saved all of the original item’s box and packaging inserts. You will want to pack back up your return or exchange in the same way it came out of the original box. Once you have everything packaged correctly, tape the box on the top and bottom to assure it stays together. If Audio Advice shipped the item to you inside a second box, it's a good idea to use that same extra box to help prevent damage on its way back to us. To avoid it accidentally coming back to you, use a magic marker to cross out the old shipping label or just tear it off.
The return shipping label we send you will have our address on it, just make sure you take the box to the right shipper (UPS, FEDEX, or USPS) as per the label.
If you are close to one of our stores, please let us know if it is more convenient for you to return it to us directly. You will still need to get a return number by contacting us and shipping and/or restocking charges may apply.
When Will I See My Refund?
It usually takes around 7-14 days for the refund to show up on the payment method you used. We do inspect all returns for damage and accuracy of the item inside the box before issuing a refund. Some items may be subject to shipping and restocking fees.
Can I Exchange My Purchase For Something Different?
Sometimes those big speakers just don’t fit in the room or you might have bought a small subwoofer and later found out you’d love a bigger one. If you would like to make an exchange within 30 days of receiving your item, just give us a call at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com and we will help work out the details. Additional shipping charges and return costs may apply.
How Do I Cancel An Order?
If the item has already shipped out or is a special order item, it is not possible to cancel the order. Please contact us at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com to start the return process.
What If I Find Shipping Damage?
We need to know right away about any shipping damage. Please contact us at 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com within 48 hours of your delivery so we can get the ball rolling on making things right. It’s very helpful to take some pictures and email them to us if possible.
Can I Refuse A Shipment?
You can, but unless the item is damaged, shipping and restocking fees will be deducted from your refund. If your item arrives damaged and you are lucky enough to be there, snap some quick pics and refuse the order. Then contact us so we can get a replacement on the way.
What Happens If My Order Is Defective?
This is actually pretty rare, most consumer electronics work fine out of the box 99.9% of the time. We’d like for you to contact us first by calling 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com so we can help get to the bottom of things. If your item is indeed defective during the first 30 days, we can usually exchange it for a new, replacement unit.
What About Service After 30 Days?
Audio Advice has a great relationship with all of our brands and can help you with warranty service by the brand after our 30-day guarantee period. Even after the warranty expires, we can arrange for service by the brand on products purchased from Audio Advice. Just call 888.899.8776 or email support@audioadvice.com.
How Do You Determine A Restocking Fee?
You may not believe it, but sometimes we receive items back that were put in the box with zero packaging and are completely destroyed or are missing many of the pieces that came with the item. We also track serial numbers and will get back different serial numbers. We’ve even seen different items than what we shipped out be returned. However, it’s very important to package your return properly so that nothing goes missing or gets damaged in shipping, which will result in a restocking fee or even no refund at all. If a product is opened and the market value of the product is reduced, then a restocking fee may be applied to the cost of restocking and the reduced market value of the product. The bottom line is if you treat us fairly, we will do the same.
Audio Advice strives to provide industry-leading support and service while also maintaining the lowest prices available on products for our customers. We work hard with our vendors to bring our customers the best products at each price point. As a part of that process, we work with our vendors to provide the lowest pricing in our stores and on our website.
Our prices should always be the same as any other authorized dealer, including big-box retailers and major online retailers.
If you believe that you have found a lower advertised price from a legitimate authorized seller, call us and let us know so we can make sure we can correct any inadvertent error on our side. As a matter of policy, we update our prices automatically if a vendor changes its authorized pricing policies, so we generally have the best prices all the time. Increasingly, there are knock-off copies of products online, usually sold by non-authorized dealers.
Please be sure that the item meets the following conditions:
- The item is brand new, in stock, and available for purchase
- The item has the identical model number, color, etc as the item on our site.
- The seller is an authorized dealer
As always, our goal is to provide a terrific customer experience, including industry low prices. We appreciate your support.
Overview
The High Notes
Power To Perform
Small Amp with Large Features
Updated HEOS App
This article discusses the Denon Home Amp, its capabilities, and technologies. We will also discuss our time with the Home Amp and who it is for.
Company History
Denon is a company with a long and storied history. It is Japan’s original audio brand and has been in business in one form or another for 110 years! Not many audio companies can say they have been in business for over a century and still produce quality products. Denon started the journey by providing sound solutions to Japan’s national public broadcaster, NHK. Denon was quickly known as a brand that moved technology forward and wasn’t afraid to try something new. Denon was always the first brand to use new technologies in their products. This thinking led Denon to create one of the first A/V receivers. And develop long-standing products like the DL-103 cartridge, which is still in production today! When music lovers talk about Japanese audio brands, Denon is always at the top.
Features & Technology
The Denon Home Amp is a new concept in home audio amplifiers. Many of today’s music lovers get their music from streaming sources. So, having a large, heavy, and expensive integrated amplifier or receiver with multiple analog inputs might be overkill. Like its brother from Marantz, the M1, which we did an overview of here, the Denon Home Amp has a small form factor (3.4 x 8.54 x 9.21 Inches) and is very light (4.5 lbs). This is nearly the same weight as the Marantz M1 and shares many features with the M1, but the look and sound are more tailored to Denon Enthusiasts. The front panel has a simple layout of volume up and down capacitive touch buttons, a mute button, and three different preset buttons you can program (this is something the Marantz M1 does not have).
The Denon Home Amp is very aesthetically appealing. The top plate is vented, allowing cooling for the internal circuits, and it has a very cool-looking wave pattern that rolls into the Denon logo on top. Denon chose to make the side panels and bottom have more of a curvy, flowing look compared to the Marantz M1’s blocky and sharp appearance. The sides and bottom are molded from the same material in one piece. This gives the Home Amp its unique look, which our testers found very appealing. Black is the only color option as the lower enclosure is a paintless design, and this unit is meant to be small and not draw too much attention. The Denon Home Amp is designed in Japan and built in Vietnam.
The back panel is equally impressive with a simple and easy-to-read layout, allowing you to connect your speakers to the well-designed binding posts, ethernet, and HDMI eARC for connecting your television. There is also an analog line input that you can use to connect your CD player or a turntable if it has a built-in phono stage or a separate phono stage. A subwoofer output is included so that you can expand your speaker system capabilities with a subwoofer very quickly, and there are crossovers for both the subwoofer and main speakers built right into the Home Amp. The subwoofer's low pass filters are adjustable from 40 to 120Hz, and the speaker's high pass filter allows for a 40 to 250Hz adjustment. This is great and not something seen on products in this price range. Adding a subwoofer and taking the bass load off of your main speakers means you can get a lower distortion performance out of your speaker system. There is also an optical digital input to connect any source that does not have an internal DAC to the Home Amp(supports formats up to 24 bit/192kHz and DSD 2.8 and 5.6MHz. A 3.5mm IR input on the back panel allows you to connect your control system to the Home Amp if you have a home control system. Lastly, there is Bluetooth 4.2 onboard, so you can connect your phone directly to the Home Amp. The multitude of connections and small form factor make the Denon Home Amp a perfect solution for home integration, as these units run cool, and are specifically designed for custom installation into an integrated home audio network. With Crestron, Control4, and AMX compatibility, the Home Amp is ready to integrate with these systems.
The Home Amp has a volume limit adjustment between 80% and 100%. This allows you to set volume limits to prevent overdriving speakers or when kids are playing music. There is also a balance control feature with up to 15dB of adjustment.
The App Is The Star Of The Show!
Denon knows that the app experience can make or break the usability of an all-in-one device like the Home Amp. Your music has become front and center with the new HEOS update for 2024. This new app experience promises to take these new Denon products to new heights in usability and ease of use.
After listening to their customers, Denon decided to change the home screen to reflect the needs of music lovers. The new home screen is all about the music, giving access to recently played tracks, favorite music, and preferred content from your music services. One of the most incredible things is the ability to create HEOS playlists and combine content from different streaming services or your personal collection as desired. The New “Now Playing” display has been added to the bottom of the screen to keep you updated on what track is playing at all times within the app. With universal music searchability, you can search for your favorite tracks no matter the service. Switching services just to find a song or album is no more, just use universal search, find the track or album, and play! The track could be on Amazon Music, Spotify, or your Tidal service. With Universal Search, it doesn’t matter; you just search, find, and play. HEOS supports Amazon Music, Pandora, SiriusXM, SoundCloud, Spotify, Tidal and Tidal Connect, and Deezer HiFi. although Qobuz and Apple Music are missing as of this article. Tidal Hi-Res will give the Home Amp and any other HEOS device the ability to play tracks up to 192KHz/24bit natively. In addition to music streaming services, you can use HEOS to access and distribute music from locally stored content on media servers or PCs. (file types supported MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, DSD, Flac, WAV, and WMA). Denon says they keep working on HEOS and making it compatible with more services and features. This gives us peace of mind as Denon will be adding features in the future and allowing more technologies and streaming services onboard.
Shinichi Yamauchi Sound Master Tuned
Like the Marantz M1, the Denon Home Amp is Sound Master Tuned. Shinichi Yamauchi is Denon’s Sound Master who tuned the Denon Home Amp. The Marantz M1 and Denon Home Amp use Axign Class D modules in their design. But just like Marantz, Denon knew they could improve how these models sounded out of the box. The great thing about the Axign Class D modules is that they are tunable so that both Marantz and Denon can tune them to get their desired sound characteristics. The Denon Home amp and Marantz M1 have very low distortion and the same output power, but their sound differs. Where the Marantz M1 is warm, lush, and laid back, like Marantz components are known for. The Denon Home Amp is livelier and more dynamic, with detail taking center stage. Both offer excellent imaging and soundstaging for the money, but take different tuning routes to get to their desired sound.
Denon knew that the Home Amp would be a new type of product for them. There are other all-in-one amplifiers on the market. Still, they don’t have the combination of features, connectivity, and, most importantly, amplifier power that can run about any speaker in its price class paired with it. The Denon Home Amp is just as comfortable as the main component in a living room music system, as it is being set beside multiple Home Amps in a whole home audio system. Denon built the Home Amp with about any scenario in mind.
Our Take
We were excited when we saw that Denon would make its version of the all-in-one amplifier. The Home Amp was straightforward to connect to our gear and network. Once connected, all of the options worked without any issues while testing. When we got the Home Amp into our test room, we wanted to know how the Denon Sound Masters tuned it.
Listening to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings's new album Woodland, we heard a lively and engaging sound from the Home Amp. The bass was impactful and detailed. Vocals and acoustic guitars had good body and tone, allowing us to hear excellent string detail. Imaging and soundstaging were really good for an amp in this price class and only showed its limitation when directly compared to much more expensive integrated amplifiers. But we liked how the sound had drive and kept us engaged with the music.
We had the Marantz M1 in our test room simultaneously, so we directly compared it to the Home Amp to see the different sound tunings on these amplifiers. The Marantz M1 is the warmer of the two amps and has a more laid-back and relaxed sound. In contrast, the Denon Home Amp is livelier, with more drive and impact. They are both excellent-sounding amplifiers, but they are tuned for different audiences. The Marantz is for people who love a warm, relaxing, soothing listening experience. The Denon Home Amp is tuned for a livelier and more impactful presentation. Listening to the Swedish rock band Graveyard with their self-titled 2023 album known as 6. The Denon Home Amp had more drive and dynamic impact on the music, while the Marantz was more about the soul of the music. Both amplifiers had good detail for their price category, and imaging and soundstaging were equally good. The Marantz and Denon did this music justice, and it would depend on your preferences and associated equipment to decide which model would be better for you. We would like to remind you that these differences are minor and, in some systems, will not be noticed.
By adding an HDMI eARC connection from our television and a subwoofer to the system, we could test the Home Amp as a 2.1-channel A/V amplifier. The added liveliness was welcome in this role, as it added some drive to movie soundtracks and TV shows. The built-in crossover controls allowed us to send the bass to the subwoofer and cross over our main speakers. This has the added benefit of lowering distortion, removing the burden of producing low bass from our main speakers, and allowing the subwoofer to do what it does best. This is an excellent addition to the Home Amp and should not be overlooked. Owners of bass-limited speakers or small stand-mount speakers could benefit from these controls.
Conclusion
We enjoyed our time with the Denon Home Amp, which stands out in its price class. It offers more than enough power for any speaker likely to be paired with it and has options not found in many receivers or integrated amplifiers. The HEOS App offers some excellent new features, and with HDMI eARC, you can connect your TV for an elevated sound experience. The Home Amp is small, light, and runs cool, allowing more placement flexibility. This is perfect for homes that want to run multiple Home Amps in a whole home audio system. If you are in the market for an all-in-one amplifier that can stream all of your favorite music, connect a CD player or other analog component, and allow you to connect your TV for better audio performance, The Denon Home Amp is worth your consideration.
