Bowers and Wilkins PI8 experience

Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 Review – A Mixed Bag of Excellence and Frustration

The Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 wireless in-ear earphones offer an exceptional sound experience that sets a benchmark in the market. The music clarity is outstanding, making it one of the best choices for audiophiles who prioritize high-fidelity audio. The balance across lows, mids, and highs is well-tuned, delivering a premium listening experience.

However, while the sound quality is excellent, connectivity issues significantly impact the overall experience. There are frequent connection drops, which can be irritating, especially considering the harsh, annoying sound it makes when the connection is unstable. Worse, covering the left earbud with a hand can completely cut off the signal, which is disappointing for a product in this price range.

Another major letdown is the noise cancellation, which is practically ineffective. It barely makes a difference, making its inclusion feel redundant. The microphone quality is just average—usable but nothing impressive.

When it comes to build quality, the earphone case feels subpar and scratches far too easily, reducing its premium feel. A more durable finish would have been preferable. Additionally, including memory foam ear tips as an option would have improved comfort and noise isolation.

At its high price, these drawbacks become even more noticeable. Given the cost, one would expect a flawless experience, but the issues with connectivity, noise cancellation, and build quality make it hard to justify the price tag.

Lastly, the DAC mode (using the case as a digital-to-analog converter) was underwhelming. There’s a noticeable delay in audio, making it ineffective for serious use.

Verdict

If sound quality is your top priority and you can overlook connectivity issues and poor noise cancellation, the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 could still be an option. However, for the premium price, these flaws are hard to ignore, and there are more reliable alternatives available that offer a better overall experience.
