A legendary cleaning workhorse!

So, this VPI machine is a little pricey...is it worth it?

YES. I decided to buy it after consulting with an audiophile and vinyl expert friend of mine. He not only uses this machine himself, but has had his for a good decade or more. Plus, he's not someone who cleans a few records a week...he literally cleans dozens a day as part of his business. He said the machine is incredibly well built and will last someone like me, who cleans far fewer records, possibly forever.

Mine came with a wooden dustcover, not a clear one...not sure why, but no matter. The torque on the motor is terrific, and keeps your record turning against the brush and the vacuum. Some more expensive cleaners are fully automatic and do everything; I prefer the VPI because you can control how much fluid you want to use, how long you want to brush, and how long you want to vacuum.

The vacuum itself is incredible...every record I've cleaned is dry in one rotation! The instructions recommend no more than 2 rotations with the vacuum; my friend recommended letting the vacuum go for much longer since that's the part of the process that actually gets the dirt OFF the record. More rotations with the vacuum applied CAN build static on the record, but if you use an anti-stat gun after cleaning, it's not a worry.

I've experienced some incredible results with this machine! It's important to note however that cleaning can only address ONE aspect that makes your vinyl noisy, which is dust, dirt and debris. No cleaning machine can fix actual damage to a record (wear, scratches, scuffs), or vinyl itself that is not top quality (it's common for vinyl from the 70s and 80s to include recycled records in the mix; good for the environment, but not great if you want quieter listens).

That being said, one of the best things about getting your vinyl clean is it'll keep your stylus in great shape. My friend had no issues claiming that this machine will get your records clean enough to keep your stylus protected from dirt and grime buildup, which in turn will keep your system sounding great and your stylus from damaging your other records!

So yes, I feel this machine was definitely worth the extra money. It performs like a champ, and I fully believe it'll be cleaning my records for decades to come!

Clean records make all the difference

I've used some other products like spin clean but having a motorized cleaner is the only way to go if you have more than 50 or records and like to listen often.
