Outstanding Performance

I'm astonished at how impressive this $300 cartridge performs. The detail is incredible. This cartridge brings the bass out at a much brighter and detailed sound than what Im used to. The cartridge is very dynamic. The highs sound great. I can only imagine how it will sound, when it's broken in. I think this cart out performs some of the MC cartridges in the $1000 range.

Excellent - Very Pleased

I bought a Rega Planar 2 a little more than a year ago. I immediately upgraded to an Ortofon blue and I didn't care for the brightness and what I perceived to be a constrained soundstage. I actually preferred the Carbon it came with to the Blue... Next, I tried the Elys 2. While I really loved the sound of my music with it, it was an incredibly finicky cartridge. That great sound it was capable of was inconsistent. Every particle of dust on the record created a loud interruption. I also didn't like how low it rode on the LP. After a year of frustration, Nick at Audio Advice suggested this Sumiko Moonstone. While it doesn't have the richness and treble that the Elys 2 had, it is incredibly consistent and I am really pleased with the purchase. It is very detailed and it produces a wider soundstage with warm lows and improved midrange sound. Of course, "sound" is relative to your ears, your perception and the equipment you use... Overall, I think this Sumiko Moonstone is quite solid - I have had 20+ hours of listening with it and it has really shined with music from Eno,, Bauhaus, Faust etc. It wasn't as dynamic with heavy metal or classic rock, but it is very good nonetheless. I should also mention that my RB220 Tonearm has been professionally upgraded and rewired.... I am giving it 5 stars relative to the other carts I have tried. I have no idea how it would compete with the expensive carts.

Awesome upgrade

Upgraded from Nagaoka 110 which is intself a great honest cartridge. The Moonstone delivers a warm detailed soundscape and is punchy in all the right places. My vinyl is predominately vintage alternative from the late 60's to mid 80's in VG/VG+ condition. Also enjoy electronica and new alternative music on new pressings. The Sumiko Moonstone works for me.
