Overview

  • The Dynamo 800X subwoofer features left and right input via RCA line and speaker level connections. Its right inputs double as and LFE input for home theater applications.
  • MartinLogan's Subwoofer Control app utilizes Bluetooth for the setup and configuration of Dynamo 600X, 800X, 1100X, and 1600X. The app can control volume level, low-pass filter (frequency and order) phase, three preset listening modes, 20-30Hz level, and the control of Anthem Room Correction.
  • The newest MartinLogan Dynamo subwoofers include inverted surrounds and strong magnet, motor, and suspension designs. The front-fire mode maximizes excursion clearance behind the grill cover with the unique inverted surround design. In a down-firing configuration, the inverted surround significantly reduces airflow related turbulence for an articulate and detailed low-frequency experience.
  • The advanced woofers pair a high-power magnet structure with low-mass diaphragms, providing massive excursions while preserving the smallest bass detail.
  • The remarkable damping properties of the 8-inch inverted surround poly cone woofer ensure a smooth, non-resonant response for seamless blending.
  • The Dynamo subwoofer class-D amplifiers function with extremely low levels of distortion and deliver a staggering low-frequency performance and dynamic impact with plenty of overhead. Low-noise, high-power switching power supplies create clean power efficiently in a small space while providing tremendous levels of current. The amplifiers feature high-quality MOSFET transistors, transformers, noise-suppression networks, and control circuitry.
  • The Inverse Mathematical Equalization (IME) Filter is used from the inverse of the unfiltered driver response. IME filtering yields extremely accurate low-frequency response that is superior to that provided by second-order high-Q filters found in other subwoofers of this price range.

Accuracy. Depth. Body.

I’ve never heard anything like this. I purchased a pair of KEF Q350 and found that while they were sensational on their own, a subwoofer was necessary to fully embody the sound I was looking for. I’d come from a fully Klipsch system that included a subwoofer in favor finding a warmer, more bodied sound. The subwoofer I used then was a Klipsch R-120SW. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it but I knew I was missing all sorts of low-end detail and attack with that subwoofer hence me letting it go.

The moment I incorporated the Martin Logan Dynamo 800X with the KEF Q350, everything that was missing was suddenly not only present, but tight and properly represented. Bass went from overpowering and hard to control with the Klipsch to being agile, deep and resounding. It’s truly unreal how much of a difference sealed versus ported made between the two. Most importantly - it complimented the KEF and was more so an extension of them rather than an addition to them, if that makes sense? They work so beautifully together with my Yamaha RX-V4A running the show and Tidal integration built in for my service of choice.

I haven’t even gotten to the size! It’s so small compared to the Klipsch (10” sealed versus 12” ported) yet hits down to 22Hz versus the 38Hz on the Klipsch. I nearly went for the KEF subwoofer but favored the matte finish and option have both down-firing and front-firing configurations over just front-firing with the KEF Kube 12b. While I’m sure it sounds incredible, the Martin Logan has truly won me over. Once I’m in a bigger apartment or home, maybe I’ll scoop another!
