Overview

The JBL MP350 Classic is inspired by the JBL SA600 amplifier from the 1960’s, with retro styling and walnut veneer side panels to make the MP350 Classic the perfect partner for classic and retro Hi-Fi systems. It perfectly matches JBL Classic and Studio Monitor walnut finished loudspeakers on the outside, along with the JBL SA550 amplifier. On the inside, the JBL MP350 is a streaming music player for the 21st century with an inclusive feature set supporting the majority of smart phones and tables, as well as popular streaming services. Connect the MP350 to your home network with Wi-Fi or Ethernet to enjoy instant playback using Apple Airplay2 or Google Chromecast. The MP350 will playback music directly from Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect, and for power users, the MP350 is Roon Ready, ALL with Hi-res and MQA support. All digital audio is output on the analog outputs using a reference high resolution DAC with time domain jitter elimination for perfect sound, every time.

The JBL Classic Series draws on the look and feel of vintage audio from the 60s and 70s. The famous JBL SA600 was the inspiration for these and we love the wood side panels and aluminum front. The side panels also match up with JBL's Classic speaker series.

A solid addition to my system!

I was curious given it's a newly available product going up against a very strong line-up in it's price range including Arcam's ST60 and ST5. Plus the Bluesound Node on the lower end of the budget and Cambridge Audio's both budget and higher end offerings.

I have an Arcam AVR, Cambridge Audio Blu-Ray/SACD player with B&W 600 series center and Sub anchored by Scandinavian built DLS Towers. I was using an Arus BluMe Pro to add streaming to my Arcam AVR but the JBL MP350 is a noticeable upgrade. The full bodied mid-range, separation and vocals capture your attention.

I use both Tidal and Apple Music and was most impressed with Apple's lossless files, some Dolby Atmos and Tidal's MQA (quite a difference over their "high" resolution) offerings.

Listening to Steve Wonder from Songs in the Key of Life, I was for the first time really able to discern the closeness of Wonder's position to his Mic on the immediacy of the message in "Village Ghetto Land" vs the more distant position on his dreamy "Knocks me Off my Feet". Details emerge in the music too with more separation of instruments, secondary/background vocals and percussive bits and pieces I hadn't previously noticed even on my CD.

It's just two days of listening but so far I can VERY happy with JBL's entry into the streaming home-audio universe.

Set up is fairly easy but I did have to unplug and restart the unit to enable it to accept my wifi password. Once I did, it was less than 5 minutes before I was playing music.

The MP350 includes a handy remote control and the quality of the unit is immediately noticeable in it's weight. It's really heavy and extremely well built. I'm happily recommending it as a solid streamer for true music lovers!
