Overview

As the flagship of the new Aurora product series, the Aurora 1000 floorstanding speaker is thoroughly captivating with its elegant visual appearance, innovative technology and, of course, outstanding acoustic properties. The bass and mid-range frequencies are reproduced in a compelling manner by two 200 mm woofers and a 170 mm midrange driver, complete with tried and tested HECO kraft paper cones, which boast a high degree of naturalness and optimum pulse speed. A newly developed Fluctus tweeter, which features a 28 mm fabric dome and computer-optimized multi-wave front panel, is responsible for ensuring perfect dispersion properties in the upper-frequency range. The extremely sturdy and multi-braced housing is accommodated on crossbeams with height-adjustable, solid metal cone spikes. The high-quality silk matte lacquer coating at the front and top of the speaker, which is available in an "ebony black" or "ivory white" finish, looks sensational in combination with modern wood decors and ensures perfect integration into any living environment.

The High Notes
Incredible Bass & Dynamics

Incredible Bass & Dynamics

With a sensitivity of 93 dB, the Aurora 1000 is more dynamic than the 700 plus it reaches down even deeper. Their 4 feet of height also gives them lifesize sound. These can fill up even very large spaces with ease.
Wonderful Cabinet Design

Wonderful Cabinet Design

The L-shaped piece of resin added to all of the Aurora models that already have almost 1" thick cabinet walls is very impressive. It reduces resonance and looks so beautiful coupled with the two color choices. And you can not see the PVC damping that goes inside the cabinet!
German Designed & Engineered

German Designed & Engineered

You get the precision of German engineering in the Aurora models. Their Fluktus tweeter, Kraft Paper Cone woofer, resonance reducing cabinets and more all go into making these models sound far better than they should for what they cost, plus they are beautiful and built to last.

The German designed Heco 1000 speaker is a step up from the highly rated 700 model. This true three way design has dual 8” Kraft paper cone woofers with a 6” midrange. At 93 dB sensitivity, it will provide incredible dynamics with very little power.

We love the L shaped resin baffle and almost 1” thick cabinet which totally eliminates resonance so you just hear the music. The high performance outrigger feet are a great touch.

High frequencies will be smooth as silk with great detail due to Heco’s famous Fluktus tweeter which has the advantages of a horn with a super pure sound.

These are large speakers that need a medium sized or larger room to open up but the combination of dynamics, deep bass, and a huge soundstage make them an amazing value that you can push even with a modest amp. The way they let you hear new details in your music explains why Heco has been a German favorite for over 60 years.

Heco 1000

I bought these based on online reviews and am both extremely pleased and very mildly disappointed. They look great/ are very nicely finished, especially for the price. They invite being played loudly and have no difficulty doing so. The cabinets and drivers are non-resonant; piano sounds very even, voices sound as natural as the recording allows. The dispersion is amazing; they sound as good well off axis as they do directly in front of the tweeter, and standing or sitting makes little difference in the sound.
The frequency response accentuates the upper midrange and treble (from maybe 600hz up) ; combined with the lack of resonance they sound very clean and clear with no muddiness. Strangely, for such a large speaker, the bass rolls off early (above 60 hz), making the overall presentation lightweight and, in my large, undamped room, too bright.

I had assumed near-wall placement would boost the in-room bass and lead to a flat response down to the port tuning frequency (about 30hz), but it did not. Disappointment.

Fortunately, my home theater receiver (a mid-market Onkyo) has customizable equalization; with the 25 and 40 hz bands boosted by 6 and 5 dB, and the upper midrange and treble sloped down by 0.5 to 3dB, the speakers sound totally neutral with solid bass to about 30 hz. In a smaller, more damped room, less or possibly even no equalization may be needed to achieve neutrality.

My room placement isn't really set up for soundstage and I'm not sure if my receiver isn't applying some kind of digital surround sound so I can only say room sound is there, placement of instruments between the speakers is there, and there is a feeling of space outside the speaker positions.

The end result is similar to the sound I get from etymotic earbuds- wide, even frequency response, super clean, non-resonant, non-fatiguing sound, and very tight, slightly lean bass. Much cleaner in the treble than the JBL L82s I recently auditioned, and not as dark in the lower midrange. More evenly balanced than the Martin Logan xt f100, though also much less bass. Clearer than my old Usher be718 and able to play louder. Cleaner in the treble than similar sized kef and b&w auditioned with the Martin Logan.

I haven't had them long enough to know if I'll run out of amplifier headroom in the bass; so far they will play as loud as anyone in the house can stand, and louder, sounding totally clean and neutral.

Highly recommended, especially at the discounted price, and if you can apply equalization as needed.

Won't find a better speaker at this price or much more.....

OMG. I have been waiting for years to upgrade my old system which was a hodge-podge system with 35 year old Bose 601 series 3's powered by Pioneer VSXLX105, which provided acceptable sound at low to normal levels (or so I thought). After a bit of a SNAFU ordering the black speakers, which apparently are no longer sold by Audio Advice, I asked customer service to replace with the open-box whites. They sent me a new pair for the price of the open box to ease my troubles! I wasn't a fan of the white until I set them up in the room. The color is growing on me... Now for the important part, these speakers sound fantastic! I still cannot believe I spent $1000 for these. I have been going to audio stores and testing out all the expensive brands and I am not sure I would trade any for these. They do everything well, it is like listening to my favorite music for the first time all over again! I then went a bit wild and bought the Anthem MRX 740 8K to drive these beasts (I will post review for that as well), as well as the Monolith THX-365C center and the Heco Aurora sub. There is a downside..... I never leave my living room and my neighbors likely are finding out more than they care about my music tastes... These things paired to the Anthem amp are something to behold, folks, I cannot turn the volume up all the way and I love loud music. What's more, at very high volume levels, they are as clear as they are powerful. I cannot imagine anyone not being thrilled with these speakers. I admit, I am an enthusiast more than I am an audiophile but I have listened to many very good big name speakers. Some may sound as good, but it would be hard-pressed to sound better, and you would have to spend AT LEAST 2X to approach the Heco 100's.

I have one and only one gripe.... These can ONLY be purchased in white and the sub can ONLY be purchased in black.... Hard to be critical as the sub sounds spectacular as well, but dammit it would be nice to have matching color from the same brand. Still a 5 star purchase.

Hard to beat for the $ vs Sound quality.

I found myself in the market for a pair of large floor standers after my better half wanted something that would blend better with our decor than the current B&W's in a Rosenut finish did. I've owned floor standers from the aforementioned B&W, Infinity Interlude, Klipsch Reference, Polk Lsi, and KLH. I needed a speaker that had color options other than different shades of brown/black. This eliminated my first option which would have been the Klipsch RF7iii and my second option the Polk R700. The Polk had a white finish, but it was too modern for my taste. Both of these speakers sounded fantastic when tested. I used to sell Audio in the early 2000's and version 1 of the RF7's were my first taste of a large floor stander.

I watched nearly every review on YouTube and read nearly every article/post I could about the Heco Aurora speakers. I didn't watch a single review or read a single article that didn't hold these speakers in high regard when it comes to sound quality. Some mentioned the cost vs performance metric which I truly believe is important. There is a point of diminishing returns on anything you buy, and one must determine where that point is for them. For me it was performance vs a finish that would match my current decor without paying 150%-300% more just to get a real wood veneer cabinet or some high-tech driver material such as my B&W Kevlar drivers. Trust me I really wanted real wood veneer, but the extra cost didn't give me that much more performance after testing the Heco's in my house vs the comps in store. Would I get better resonance from well-constructed real wood veneer cabinet, well yes, I would. Would I get 150%-300% more performance, absolutely not. Don't get me wrong the finish on an RF7iii or even the Polk Reserve is fantastic, but the Heco 1000 vinyl wrap, and matte finished plastic baffle looks better than you'd expect for the price point.

In all honesty who cares about finish, right? Haha. We care about performance!! Well, I bought the one speaker I couldn't demo, imagine that... the Aurora 1000 and I was not disappointed! The last speaker I owned that came close to the low end of these Heco's were some original Pioneer HPM-100's. They were my dad's and man did Dr. Dre sound awesome on them, lol. This was also in a small room which thinking back on it had great treatment, Carpet, curtains, perfectly spaced speakers, a well-shaped room, and a vintage Marantz 2245 or Pioneer SA-9900 powering them.

So, I'm long winded and if you've made it this far then kudos to you. What I'm trying to say here is that these Heco speakers punch well above their price range, and I am very happy with my purchase. They look fantastic too. One thing I saw in reviews was the ports and the binding post plate were made of metal. They are not, they're made to look like metal but definitely plastic. I know Audio Advice imported these to the US market for the first time a few years back and I truly believe if these speakers make it into the listening rooms of a few more Hi-Fi lovers their price will start to reflect their performance. Get these while you can.

Better than Polk R700 for 60% LESS $

I had recently received a pair of Polk R700's from Crutchfield for around $2200. Then, I read a review on these at audioholics (and they SHOULD have been speaker of the year!). They were $484 each on Amazon at the time so I ordered 2 of them. I also had a little pair of Arendal 1961's on audition at same time. Well, the HECO's easily bested the Polks and the Arendals. The HECO's did have a little less bass 'umph' than the Polks (maybe 5-10% less), but the mids and highs were so much smoother and like warm butter compared to the Polks. Polks got sent back as did the Arendals. I don't know how HECO did it, but these speakers compete with Golden Ears IMO!!!
